Origin Story

Yakisoba is a Japanese street food staple, inspired by Chinese stir-fried noodle dishes like Chow Mein. Made with stir-fried wheat noodles, it was adapted to suit Japanese tastes with a unique sweet and savoury sauce, similar to Worcestershire. The dish typically includes a colourful mix of vegetables and thinly sliced chicken, topped with pickled ginger or crispy onions. This bold, umami-rich flavour has made it a beloved part of Japanese food culture.

Product Information

If using chicken or vegetables, slice these. If using tofu, cut into cubes. Slice the spring onions.

  1. Cook the noodles in boiling water for 1 minute, then drain and rinse under cold water.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a wok or large pan until hot. Stir-fry the protein or veg for 3-4 minutes, then add pepper, cabbage, 1/2 spring onions and cook for 2-3 minutes or until cooked.
  3. Add the spices, herbs and seeds from the spice pouch (include the chilli for extra heat) and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Add cooked noodles, stir-fry for 1 minute, stir in the sauce (small pouch) and cook for 2 minutes.

Serving suggestion – Top with remaining spring onions and crispy onions (if using).
